Police reveal new details after man stabbed twice with knife

Police have shared more information about an alleged stabbing in Maryborough in the early hours of the morning.

An altercation between two groups escalated when a woman allegedly used a knife to stab a man twice, a Queensland Police Service spokesman said on Monday.

The spokesman said four people were walking home after having a drink together in Maryborough about 2.40am on Sunday.

The group walked past a man and a woman sitting on a loading dock, the spokesman said.

There was an exchange between the two groups and when the group of four tried to walk on, a fight broke out.

The woman then took out a knife and allegedly repeatedly stabbed one of the men in the group of four.

Police said the woman and man did not know each other.

Police were called to the intersection of Sussex and John Streets shortly after 2.30am following reports a man had sustained a wound to his back.

According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, the man was transported to Hervey Bay Hospital in a serious condition with wounds to his chest and shoulder following the incident.

A woman was arrested after the incident but as of Monday afternoon, no changes had been laid,

“Investigations are ongoing,” police said.
