A man aged in his 20s has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed in his shoulder and chest in Maryborough and a woman has been taken into custody.

A man has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a stabbing in Maryborough overnight.

The man, aged in his 20s, was transported to Hervey Bay Hospital with wounds to his chest and shoulder following the incident, which happened at 2.40am on Sunday at a private address.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Police Service said police were investigating an alleged assault that occurred in Maryborough early Sunday morning.

“Police were called to the intersection of Sussex and John Street shortly after 2.30am following reports a man had sustained a wound to his back,” she said.

“He was transported to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.”

A woman was taken into custody at the scene and is assisting with inquiries.
