Police attend alleged siege in Granville after reports of shots fired

Police were called to the scene of an alleged siege in Maryborough after reports of shots fired, with streets in the area being locked down.

An alleged siege unfolded in Granville on Wednesday after police were called to reports of shots being fired about 4.35pm on Banana St.

When police arrived, a man remained inside the house and would not engage with police, a spokeswoman from the Queensland Police Service said.

No one else was in the house at the time.

On arrival, due to reports of the man being armed and dangerous, police drew the service weapons as a precaution but were holstered once deemed safe.

A Public Safety Preservation Act was declared at 5.29pm for Banana and Cardigan Streets and Stuart Court and later revoked at 6.35pm.

The man eventually engaged with a police negotiator and was arrested without incident.

No shots were discharged by police.

A 60-year-old Granville man has since been charged with two counts of possessing/acquiring restricted weapons and one count each of unlawful possession of weapons, obstruct police officer, possessing dangerous drugs and possess utensils or pipes etc that has been used.

He is due to appear in the Maryborough Magistrates Court on September 23.
