Maryborough man in court for bruising his wife
A Fraser Coast ex-husband has been fined $1500 and convicted of assault occasioning bodily harm for what he did to his then wife in their home.

A man who yelled at his wife for 20 minutes then grabbed and bruised her upper arms when she tried to get away has been fined $1500 for assault occasioning bodily harm.
The Maryborough man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to that charge and one charge of breaching a domestic violence order when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 16.
The court heard the man had been involved in an incident involving his wife on September 20, 2022.
He had yelled at her for about 20 minutes and she had run towards the bedroom door to get out of the room.
The man grabbed her to try to stop her before she broke free of his grip, causing bruising to her upper arms, the court heard.
Photographs submitted to the court showed the bruising.
In a separate incident, the man had come home from work, came into her bedroom and came “very, very close to her”, after which he went on a 44-minute tirade of abuse and name calling, the court heard.
During an interview with police about the incident, he said he couldn’t recall it but that he’d had “regular disagreements” with her.
The man’s wife had submitted a victim impact statement to the court, saying that she struggled to sleep as a result of the offending and she felt “small, humiliated and degraded”.
She felt her self-esteem had been destroyed and she had stopped going to church for a time, which had been a source of strength for her.
The woman had been attending counselling in the wake of the incident, the court was told.
The two had since separated, the court heard.
Magistrate Andrew Walker said as far as the two of them it looked as though there would be very little contact after the property settlement was resolved.
The man was fined $1500 and no convictions were recorded.
