A man who repeatedly tried to contact his former partner from prison has found himself before court.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to two counts of contravening a domestic violence order when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court on Tuesday via videolink.
The court heard the man had 14 prior breaches of a domestic violence order on his criminal history.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Balam Selvadurai said the victim had received text messages from a third party on February 26, 2025, saying the man wanted to talk to her.
The woman believed the man was trying to contact her through a third party because of the use of his nickname, the court heard.
He had been prohibited from contacting the woman except through a lawyer under the terms of the domestic violence order.
Then on March 14, about 5pm, the woman received a call from a private number and an unknown man said, “don’t hang up”.
The defendant could then be heard at the other end of the phone, telling her he loved her and had gotten her address from another inmate.
The call continued for eight to nine minutes, Sgt Selvadurai said.
The man represented himself during the court appearance and said he did not wish to make any submissions on his own behalf.
The man was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for an operational period of 18 months.
