Man, 37, dies after e-bike hits pole at Hervey Bay

An e-bicycle rider in his 30s has died after crashing into a power pole on a busy beachside road. It comes as deaths in that region are now 20 more than last year with two funerals in two days.

A Hervey Bay man, 37, has died after suffering critical injuries when his e-bicycle hit a power pole in the town on Sunday evening.

The shocking crash happened about 6.35pm on the Esplanade at Scarness, outside the Pine Lodge Motel and just metres from the building that houses the electoral office of state MP Adrian Tantari and Raine and Horne.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics attempted CPR to save the man from Takura, however he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam vision in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

More than 43 people have now died on Wide Bay roads, up 20 than the same time last year.

So concerned are police, additional officers from the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane have been brought in to carry out extended patrols in the region as part of Operation Bombay.

On Thursday, the father of a former Noosa High student who died in a car accident on the outskirts of Gympie, paid loving tribute to his once-troubled daughter, who he said had found peace and happiness in the Mary Valley.

A tragic, single-vehicle accident in Gympie on October 28, took the life of 32-year-old mother-of-three Catriona Anne Williams.

Ms Williams was killed when her silver 2000 Honda HRV left Corella Road and hit a tree.

About 300 people gathered to farewell Jaydan Doorley on Friday after the 21-year-old Bargara died from injuries sustained from a crash involving his motorcycle and a ute in the Bundaberg suburb of Kepnock on Thursday, October 12.

His grandmother Diana Doorley told those gathered about Jaydan’s active childhood surfing, swimming and fishing with his father John.
