Loved ones of Jaydan Doorley gathered to farewell the 21-year-old Bargara man at a moving funeral service in Bundaberg on Friday.

Jaydan died from injuries sustained from a crash involving his motorcycle and a ute in the Bundaberg suburb of Kepnock on Thursday, October 12.

Around 300 people attended Jaydan’s funeral service at the Branyan Gardens chapel, with his grandmother Diana Doorley telling those gathered about Jaydan’s active childhood surfing, swimming and fishing with his father John.

Along with many others, Diana spoke of motorbikes as Jaydan’s “main passion and love”.

In a speech delivered by her father, Phil Dunn, Jaydan’s partner Star-Maree Dunn said he was “the most adventurous spontaneous guy, always on the go and craving the adrenaline rush of living life on the wild side”.

“And that’s why no-one could keep you away from your second love, that bike,” Star-Maree said.

Saying she “tried her absolute hardest” to stop Jaydan from riding his motorbike, Star-Maree relayed some hauntingly prescient words Jayden had said to her and her mother shortly before the crash.

“I remember only recently you saying to me and my Mum, ‘if I’m going to die, I’m going to die doing something I love’,” she said.

“I hate that your words rang true, and that now we don’t get to spend the rest of our days together and have the opportunity to live the dreams we had planned together for the future.

“I love you Jaydan, I miss you so much and doing life without you feels next to impossible.

“But I promise you I will get up every day and push myself to try.

“Fly high my beautiful boy until we meet again.”

Overcome by emotion, Jaydan’s sister, Joelee, handed her speech to Diana to give on her behalf, speaking of “the best brother, best friend, and a father figure”, and drawing a laugh when she mentioned her brother’s penchant for “stupid jokes”.

“Jaydan was a remarkable person who brought so much joy and love into our lives,” Joelee said.

“He had a contagious smile that could light up any room.

“We will forever cherish the memories we shared with him and the impact he had on our lives.

“Although he is no longer physically with us, his spirit will continue to live forever in our hearts.

“I love you Jaydan, forever 21.”

Similarly, Jaydan’s friend Kallan Barritt said his best mate’s “smile would light up the darkest of rooms”.

“Jaydan loved the sunrise, sometimes he would wake me up just to go to the beach or the Hummock and watch the sun come up,” Kallan said.

Testament to the many lives he touched, a steady throng of people filed through the chapel to lay flower petals and bush leaves alongside Jaydan’s casket, before his pallbearers carried him out to the sound of Green Day’s ‘Time of Your Life”.

Following Jaydan’s burial in the nearby Garden of Rest cemetery, mourners gathered in the terrace for his wake.
