The Fraser Coast Ag Show displays all sorts of arts and craft with cake decorating being on display for the public to see.
Cake judging steward Bev Hibberd said there were 33 cakes on display featuring the show’s theme ‘horses to horsepower’ and novelty cakes like a miniature house made out of sugar icing.
She was surprised the competition retained similar entry numbers to pre-COVID times and said several school students around the region also entered this year’s competition.
“The kids love it, especially the novelty cakes … it’s great, we like to encourage the young ones to get involved” she said.
Ms Hibberd said there were specific criteria judging stewards looked at during the competition.
“When judging a cake you have to look at the colour cake because you can’t have finger marks on them, the icing has to be smooth and you have to have you flower decorations as fine as you can,” she said.
Ms Hibberd many hours of preparation went into each entree and gave the example of floral decorations, saying each petal had to be individually created and brought together to complete the final design.
“It’s a very time consuming process but to see everyone bring their cakes together, it’s well worth the effort,” Ms Hibberd said.
