A young rugby league prodigy hailing from Hervey Bay has signed on to an NRL powerhouse’s development squad.

Kobie Woodman, an inaugural member Bayside Christian College’s Bayside Barracudas Rugby League Development Program, has been selected to the 2025 Brisbane Broncos 13-16 years Development Squad after impressing in Hervey Bay and Wide Bay representative teams across the past 12 months.

“Kobie Woodman is the first Barracuda to be signed on with an NRL team, and with numerous NRL clubs showing interest in our players, Kobie is likely to be the first of a great many,” a statement from Bayside Christian College reads.

“This has made me very proud and boosted my confidence in my rugby league journey,” Kobie said.

Under the watchful eye of Coach Brett Carter, Kobie has gone from strength to strength and was named player of the series in the Highway Cup.

Starting out at under six level at the Coomera Cutters on the Gold Coast before moving and beginning his new journey with the Hervey Bay Seagulls, Kobie has made a name for himself locally and most recently, in front of the Broncos development staff, and will look to further impress them as he heads to the Sunshine Coast for monthly training sessions with some of the game’s greatest minds.

Kobie knows balancing school and elite sport will be a challenge, but he says he is ready to “balance and cope with the workload and expectations.”

With dreams of representing the Broncos first grade team in the near future, Kobie is eager to get down to the Sunshine Coast, ready to learn from new coaches while thanking his current ones and his parents for their ongoing support.

The Broncos will play their first match of 2025 against the roosters on March 6.
