Hervey Bay couple celebrate winning $1 million playing Lotto

A Hervey Bay couple has described jumping up and down for joy when realising they had won more than $1m on Gold Lotto.

A Hervey Bay couple is celebrating after winning more than $1 million in Gold Lotto.

An Urraween couple has shared how they started to “scream and jump up and down” when the reality of their million-dollar Lotto win began to sink in.

The couple held one of the five division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4473, drawn on Saturday.

They won a prize of $1,048,013.90.

The man answered the phone call from lottery officials on Monday but was travelling and could not speak about his win until Tuesday morning.

“I could give you a kiss,” he said when the enormity of his prize was finally confirmed.

“We can’t believe it.

“We were a bit sceptical about the first call we received on Monday morning and we couldn’t speak all day because we’re out and about on holidays.

“I spoke to my daughter last night about the call we received, and she rushed over to our home, found the ticket and checked the winning numbers online.

“My granddaughter was filming it on a video call with us and we all just started to scream and jump up and down.

“We spoke to our son this morning and he just responded with, ‘oh yeah, OK’.

“He didn’t seem to believe it at first but then we sent him the video of us discovering the win and he got super excited.

“It doesn’t feel real. Things like this don’t happen to us.

“We’re not used to $1 million.

“We had a few glasses of champagne to celebrate but I can’t wait to get back home and celebrate with the entire family.”

He said more travelling and a car was on the cards with their million-dollar win.

They bought their winning ticket at Nextra Fraser Gateway Newsagency at Stockland Shopping Centre,

Nextra Fraser Gateway Newsagency owner Jiayin Li said she was extremely excited to have sold a division one winning entry to a local couple.

“We’re super pleased to have sold a division one winning entry in Saturday Gold Lotto and even better, it went to a local customer,” she said.

“The last time we had a division one winning entry was over six months ago in the Super 66 draw; it’s about time we had another one.”
