A Derwent Park man didn’t immediately know he had a $1m winning TattsLotto ticket, in fact he was totally unaware initially.

The winning husband said his wife had seen in the paper their local newsagency, Derwent Park Newsagency, had sold a division one winning entry that was unregistered.

“She asked me if I had bought a ticket and if I had checked,” he said.

“I had to found out, so I walked into the newsagency which I’ve been visiting for multiple decades, and I said to the team member, ‘I supposed the win has been claimed?’.

“He then informed me that it hadn’t been claimed yet, there was a bit of hope!”

The scanner popped up with the winning numbers in-store and he said he couldn’t believe it.

“I called my wife straight away and I asked her, ‘When are you going to be home from work? I’ve got some news to tell you, but I can’t tell you until I get home.

“She thought I had lost my job or something bad had happened! I gave her a mini heart attack.

“I told her the news once she got home and tears started to pour down her face. She was absolutely speechless.”

He said they would be booking a holiday for next year.

“We would love to travel next year,” he said.

“This will really help us sight-see some more places. How exciting.”

A Tasmanian could be sitting on a million dollar winning lotto ticket and not even know it.

The Lott took to Facebook to announce a missing division one winner had purchased the winning ticket from Derwent Park Newsagency.

The prize up for grabs from Saturday’s draw is worth $1,048,013.90.

Business partners Glenn Commane and James Warburton own the business, and Mr Commane said he was brimming with excitement when he noticed on Sunday morning that they’d sold the unregistered ticket.

“We were very excited, we hadn’t had one in a couple of years,” Mr Commane said.

He said they were hopeful of finding the lucky winner.

Having been with the business for 33-years, Mr Commane has seen a few big winners but said the last one was about five years ago.

“They do bob up every so often but you can’t expect that they will, so it’s good when it does,” he said.

In total, five division one winners split just over $5m, with the unclaimed ticket Tasmania’s only winner.

The numbers drawn were 22, 42, 39, 28, 5 and 21. Supplementary number were 13 and 29.
