Fraser Coast Meals on Wheels receives funding boost
A vital community service delivering meals to the elderly and people with a disability has received a big funding boost.

An organisation that produces thousands of meals a year for people who need it most has received a $55,000 grant.

Member for Hervey Bay Adrian Tantari said Fraser Coast Meals on Wheels made a vital contribution to the region, providing care to some of the most vulnerable members of the community, with the money to be used to purchase new equipment.

“Providing not only meals but building and fostering community spirit,” he said.
Meals on Wheels manager Maria Daye said the funding would allow Meals on Wheels to continue to provide good nutritious meals for clients, including elderly people and those with a disability and also provided an opportunity for clients to have social interaction.
“Receiving this funding gives Meals on Wheels the capacity to further provide meals to some of our most needy in the community,” she said.
“The new equipment has already been well used.”
Ms Daye called on willing community members to come forward and volunteer their time to assist Meals on Wheels provide its valuable community service.
“We always need to continue to grow our volunteer base and currently levels are getting low, which puts in danger the organisation’s ability to provide our quality service,” she said.
“If you have some spare time, then consider volunteering your time to Meals on Wheels.”
Mr Tantari said since 2020, community groups in the Hervey Bay electorate had received about $2 million in funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
“This valuable funding has been used for projects such as upgrading artificial greens at the Hervey Bay Bowls Club, purchasing wheelchairs for Fraser Coasters Wheelchair Basketball, purchasing a bus for Kalang and now, providing new equipment to Meals on Wheels,” he said.
The Gambling Community Benefit Fund Grant’s once-a-year $100,000 round opens mid-January and closes February 28, 2023.
