Some of the Fraser Coast’s most inspirational people have been recognised for their efforts in the community, sport and business at the Fraser Coast Ability Awards.

The annual Fraser Coast Ability Awards were held on Wednesday as the most inspiring members of the region were celebrated.
Hosted at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough, athletes, restaurants and volunteers were all celebrated for their contribution.
“The awards shine the spotlight on those in our community who are providing inspiration, demonstrating leadership, offering mentorship and achieving results in their chosen fields,” Division 10 councilor Zane O’Keefe said.

Ted Weber Individual Achievement Award and Ability’s Hall of Fame – Emerald Wilmshurst
This year Emerald represented Australia at the Under 25 Women Wheelchair Basketball World Championships in Thailand.
Emerald promotes the sport across the Fraser Coast as a must do for anybody with physical impairments.
She is being inducted into the Fraser Coast Ability Awards because her personal achievements showcase her incredible dedication to helping others and bringing joy to those around her.
Young Community Spirit Award – Blake Sindel
Blake volunteers at Kirami Aged Care where he interacts with the residents, plays games, shares his school achievements and schoolwork, and ignites a positive outlook on life.
The residents look forward to Blake’s visits and enjoy their chats and banter.
Sport and Recreation Award – Dyshart Morgan
With a current Australian ranking of number one in numerous freestyle categories as well as the 50- metre breaststroke in his S19 classification, Dyshart has excelled in swimming at a national level.
Education Provider – Hervey Bay Special School
Hervey Bay Special School has a longstanding reputation of making significant contributions to the educational needs of students with disabilities.
Their dedication to education make them an invaluable asset in the lives of students and their families.
Community Organisation – My Hero Disability Services
My Hero Disability Services has made a profound impact in the Fraser Coast community through its dedication to inclusivity and empowerment for individuals with disabilities.
Through a variety of innovative programs and, they have cultivated a supportive environment, where participation from all corners of the community is welcomed.
Employment Provider – Sea Breeze Café Hervey Bay
After successfully providing part-time paid employment for a young NDIS participant, giving him his first taste of paid work, the cafe now employs four individuals with disabilities, offering them more than just jobs, but a renewed sense of purpose and dignity.
They also provide work experience opportunities and free cooking classes.
Community Champion – Joshua Armstrong
A dedicated support worker, Joshua displays an extraordinary level of commitment and compassion.
In addition to his work with LPS, he also conducts free inclusive cooking lessons at the Sea Breeze Café as is involved with a horse therapy.
Community Spirit – Lachlan Kavanagh
A successful athlete in the sport of Boccia, Lachlan has created a local club where all can socialise and feel a sense of belonging regardless of ability or disability.
A passionate advocate for people with disabilities, he is always there to offer a helpful hand to those in need.
