People were evacuated from the Signature building on Torquay Rd in Pialba on Wednesday morning after smoke was detected coming from the ceiling on the third level.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson said five crews were on the scene.

Police closed part of Torquay Rd and ambulance crews were also on scene.

The spokeswoman said people had been alerted to the emergency after an alarm sounded about 8.30am.

There was no active fire but atmospheric testing was being carried out, she said, with levels one and two being cleared.
