Crime map shows offences committed at Hervey Bay and Maryborough schools

Police have handled 127 incidents – some involving weapons – in two years at schools across Hervey Bay and Maryborough, new data shows, as the schools responsible for the most call-outs are revealed.

Almost 130 alleged assaults, weapons, drug, arson and other offences have occurred inside the gates of Fraser Coast schools in the past two years, according to Queensland Police Service data.

The shock numbers include an incident at the Bayside Christian College campus in June 2021 in which there was an arson attack on the school.

The fire damaged a classroom on the campus.

According to the Queensland Police Crime Map, in addition to the arson, two assaults, one trespass and a fraud were crimes also committed at the Bayside Christian College campus in the past two years.

An arson attack was also carried out at Granville State School in March 2022.

Initial police investigations revealed a wheelie bin at the school had been deliberately set on fire, and the flames had then spread to a school building.

Those were far from the only schools in the region to be impacted.

At Urangan State High School, in the past two years, 26 crimes were committed on campus.

Those included unlawful entry, weapons acts offences, robbery, assault and trespassing.

Hervey Bay State High School recorded 22 offences on its campus in the past two years.

That included 13 assaults, four theft offences, two unlawful entry offences, trespass and property damage.

Earlier this year, police issued a warning over the school holidays, asking for people to be on the lookout for crime on school campuses over the break, and reminding people that entering a school property without permission was considered trespassing.

At Fraser Coast Anglican College, a trespass offence, a theft and property damage were recorded over the past two years.

Aldridge State School recorded 16 offences on campus in the past two years, including eight assaults, three drug offences, a weapons act offence and one unlawful entry.

There was significant damage to Granville State School after an overnight fire.

Also recording offences on campus were Kawungan State School, with two thefts, two unlawful entries and a property offence, while Torquay State School had recorded 10 offences in the past two years, including seven unlawful entries, two incidents of property damage and one trespass.

At Yarrilee State School, four crimes had been recorded, including two thefts, one property damage and one unlawful entry.

St James Anglican College in Urraween had recorded one trespass, a theft and an assault on campus.

At Maryborough, Riverside Christian College recorded a miscellaneous offence, a theft, drug and property offence in the past two years.

St Mary’s College had one property offence, an unlawful entry and an assault recorded on campus in the past two years.

Albert State School had one incident recorded as offense against the person, two property damage offences, one theft, one unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one unlawful entry.

Seven crimes were recorded at Maryborough West State School, including property damage, trespassing, drug offences, unlawful entry and assault.

At the Maryborough Central State School and Maryborough State High School campuses, 16 crimes were recorded, including five assaults, three unlawful entries and two drug offences.
