Police appeal for witnesses after fire damages school building

A fire has damaged a building at a Hervey Bay school in the early hours of Tuesday morning. On arrival, fire crews said they could see smoke coming from the building.

UPDATE, 9.30pm:

Police are seeking witnesses and CCTV footage after a fire damaged a building at Bayside Christian College on Tuesday morning.

Officers from Hervey Bay Police Station and Hervey Bay Criminal Investigation Branch are seeking information regarding the fire, which started at the property on Pantlins Lane, Urraween about 3.30am.

It is alleged that unknown persons have attend the address on Pantlins Lane and as a result a fire has occurred.

Police are seeking help from the community regarding any information about people in the area at the time or earlier in the evening, including any CCTV images from surrounding homes and business which may be able to assist police with their inquiries.

A fire has damaged a building at a Hervey Bay school in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The fire started at Bayside Christian College about 4.20am at Pantlins Lane in Urraween.

Station officer Mark Ferguson said on arrival, crews could see smoke issuing from the building.

Crews went into action to extinguish the blaze before checking the lower level of the building, which was smoke logged.

Mr Ferguson said there was a small amount of damage to the building.

Crews then worked to ventilate the two-storey building.

A spokesman said fire investigators and Queensland police would examine the scene.

He said three crews had attended to extinguish the blaze and at about 6am, the scene was left in the hands of the police.
