Pair arrested for stealing five cars

A man and woman have fronted court over the alleged theft of multiple cars in and around Hervey Bay.

Five cars allegedly stolen in Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay police have arrested a man and woman following a spate of car thefts.

A 32-year-old Inala man was charged with five counts of enter dwelling and commit, five counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle, one count each of attempted enter dwelling and commit, stealing, fraud, breach of bail condition, evasion offence, failure to appear in accordance with undertaking, and driving of a motor vehicle without a licence.

A 24-year-old Stafford woman was charged with five counts of enter dwellings, five counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle, one count each of attempted enter dwelling and commit, stealing, fraud, and driving of a motor vehicle without a licence.

Police allege that over three days the pairs stole five cars in Hervey Bay with their trail of alleged crime starting on Monday, October 2 and lasting until Thursday, when they were arrested.

The first car taken was a white ute from a property in Whipbird Court, Urangan, police allege.

The duo then allegedly stole a blue SUV from Alison Court in Torquay, before stealing fuel from a business on Main Street, Kawungan.

On Wednesday, October 4, the duo were allegedly involved in a break-in at a Wide Bay Drive property in Urangan.

Afterwards they allegedly stole a black ute at Sunset Crescent, Torquay while also trying to break into a property on the same street.

They then, allegedly, drove to Melong Street, Scarness, where the man stole a red car. Shortly after, in Torquay, the man was challenged by the owners of the car and ran from the scene after crashing the vehicle into a fence.

From there, the duo allegedly stole a blue SUV from an address on Faye Ave, Scarness before getting arrested.

All the vehicles were recovered, police said.

The duo fronted Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Friday morning where their cases were adjourned to the second of November and they were remanded in custody until that time.
