For over a century, regional shows have been a treasured part of the Fraser Coast region social calendar, with families, competitors and tourists visiting their locals showgrounds for a day of fun and fancy.
The beloved Showgirl has always been the face of the show, being the friendly guide to the in’s and out’s of local shows, and has been a longstanding tradition the Fraser Coast Show, established in 1875, and the Teebar show, started in 1914, have tried to nurture.
Unfortunately the Fraser Coast Show has struggled to keep alive the tradition in recent years, and has even forgone the Showgirl competition at times due to a “low number of entries and interest within the community”.
“Like many other Show Societies throughout Australia, we are struggling with a ageing membership base, volunteers and chief stewards,” the Fraser Coast Agriculture Show Society President Scott Hiller said.

Since 2010 there has only been five Fraser Coast Miss Showgirls crowned, while the Teebar Show has consistently crowned a Teebar Miss Showgirl missing only 2020 and 2022, due to complications associated with the pandemic.
While the showgirl tradition has continued to flourish across the Gympie, Bundaberg and Burnett regions, for the Fraser Coast region, there has only been 21 crowned showgirls since 2009.
According to Mr Hiller, the Fraser Coast society intends to focus on developing a Future Gen program that will bring together like minded youth, between 13-18 years old, and encourage involvement in the different sections of the show.
“Once we have built a solid foundation with the growing number of youth within future gen, we will hold a Junior Miss Showgirl as well as a Showgirl competition.”
