The Fraser Coast Industry and Careers Showcase 2023 is coming to Maryborough in June.

More than 2000 students and jobseekers, and 80 organisations attended the event in 2022.

It will be held two months early in 2023, on Wednesday, June 7, at the Maryborough Showgrounds.

Jobs Fraser Coast Chair Michelle Hay said the decision came after schools had suggested the event be moved to earlier in the year so that it could influence the Year 1o students’ choice of their elective subjects for their high school senior years.

Ms Hay said the event aimed to “bring employers, trainers, students and jobseekers together in the one place, offers hands-on and live-action experiences, and give people easy access to experts in their field”.

“After last year’s event, a wide range of job vacancies and apprenticeships were secured by local people. We want to see the same outcome happen again, this year, as we work to grow our own strong, skilled and capable workforce.”

Employment, Small Business, Training and Skills Development Minister Di Farmer said this was an “exciting time for the Fraser Coast, with a range of major projects under way and in the pipeline – but with that economic growth comes significant workforce needs and challenges”.

“There will be so many great opportunities available with industries including trades and manufacturing, timber and agriculture, health and aged care, defence, police and emergency services, education and more.”

“If we can continue to build our business while giving local kids a great start in the workforce, for us that’s what it’s all about,” Mr Linwood said.

The Fraser Coast Industry & Careers Showcase is free entry and open to people of all ages from 1pm-5pm, “with a special focus for secondary students from 10am – 2pm.”
