DOUBLE WIN: M’boro attractions among best in country

Two awards for loved Coast projects

Gallipoli to Armistice Memorial and Maryborough Mural Project are among the winners in the 2020 Australian Street Art Awards.

UPDATE: General Manager of Fraser Coast Tourism and Event Martin Simons said it was good to see Maryborough recognised alongside Hervey Bay regarding tourist attractions.

"Maryborough is shining … here is a couple of major attractions on the national stage, up against quite a lot of competition," he said.

"The mural piece was a very heavily competitive category … the fact the Maryborough Mural Project was recognised with a silver award is great kudos to the committee."

Mr Simons said both attractions were fantastic examples of community coming together to create art, setting Maryborough apart with a 'can do' attitude.

The Street Art Awards follow other tourism awards in the past weeks, awarded to the Fraser Coast.Mr Simons said the recent awards recognised the region was a growing tourist destination and travellers resonated with the what the region had to offer.

"It's an amazingly diverse region, we've got wilderness islands, close access to the reef, great diving and safest beaches on the east coast. Then you've got hinterland and tremendous military history," he said.

The Australian Street Art Awards have labelled two Fraser Coast art trails among the best in the nation.

Maryborough's Gallipoli to Armistice war memorial was awarded best monument or memorial and the Maryborough Mural Project came second in the best street art trail category.

These latest awards follow a string of others.

On Tuesday, Hervey Bay was named by Booking.com as one of Australia's most welcoming destinations.

This was a week after it was named one of Queensland's best travel regions by Wotif.com.

Torquay Beach was labelled as one of the best in Queensland.

Jetstar flights from Hervey Bay to Sydney will also take off in May.
