According to the Maaroom Progress and Ratepayers Association, there are reports of anti-social behaviour at the local boat ramp and the association has since petitioned the council to do something about it.
This behaviour was described as primarily hooning in the boat ramp carpark.
Fraser Coast Regional Council responded to the reports at the Ordinary Council Meeting on March 24, saying the issue was more of a problem during the summer holiday peak, after 10pm.
The council communicated with the Queensland Police Service about the issue, but without any specific incidents, registrations or vehicle types, there was little police could do to apprehend offenders.
The meeting also noted the lengthy travel time to respond to calls at Maaroom meaning offenders are no longer in the area when police officers arrive.
While police have not recorded any incidents, they advised there will increase patrols for the Maaroom area and recommend that residents use the recently launched QPS hoon hotline on 134 666.
The council also noted that if the car park was expanded in the future, that speed controls be considered as part of the design.
If this anti-social behaviour happens again, the council recommended to use its surveillance trailer in Maaroom to gather evidence and surveillance footage for police to follow up.
