Plans for old Bunnings site revealed

The plans for Hervey Bay’s old Bunnings site can be revealed along with other major changes for big brand shop spaces around the city’s centre.

The plans for an abandoned site once used by Bunnings and the Good Guys can now be revealed, with Amart, BCF, Supercheap Auto and Rebel set to move in.

The Hervey Bay building once used by Bunnings is set for new tenants with multiple big-name businesses ready to move in.

The Boat Harbour Drive site in Hervey Bay will soon be home to Amart, BCF, Supercheap Auto and Rebel.

With Bunnings leaving the facility in 2022 for a $55 million development next door on Main and McLiver Street, the site has remained empty since.

Currently being redeveloped however, it will house Amart’s first franchise on the Fraser Coast with the previous closest location being in Bundaberg.

Supercheap Auto, BCF and Rebel, owned by Australian conglomerate Super Retail Group, all have franchises on Boat Harbour Drive currently - the former three in the same complex as the cinemas where the Good Guys and Early Settler were also located before they moved to the new Spotlight development which opened just before the Christmas holidays.

New tenants for the old Good Guys and Early Settler spaces, which have been vacant since November, and the spaces which will soon be left empty by the relocation of Supercheap and BCF, have yet to be confirmed however it’s understood a sports store may be going in the Good Guys space (pictured below).

A Super Retail Group spokesperson said “while our lease arrangements are continually under review we remain absolutely committed to the local area”.

The future of the old Bunnings site has long been the subject of conversation on local community Facebook pages.

A January 31 Facebook post made by Wayne Marles was commented on more than 100 times.

Across the road from the old Bunnings, the SDG lead development on the corner of Hunter St and Boat Harbour Drive is reaching the end of its second stage of construction.

Wholelife Pharmacy and Country Care Group signage is on the fencing surrounding the building.

Leasing manager Sam McGregor was contacted for comment about any further tenants and expected opening dates.

Both companies nearest franchises to Hervey Bay are currently in Bundaberg, 70km away.

The announcements continue the rapid development taking place in Hervey Bay as developers try and keep up with the Fraser Coast’s booming population, which is expected to grow to 125,707 by 2036.
