Captain Nemo has descended on Brisbane.

A film set for blockbuster Disney+ series Nautilus took over The Old Museum in the inner-city on Friday as lead actors Shazad Latif, who plays Nemo, and Australia’s Georgia Flood filmed a firey action sequence on the building’s balcony.

It was the first look at the British actor in costume as the iconic character since filming began on the Gold Coast in mid-February.

The 10-part live action series is the first origin story of Captain Nemo from Jules Verne’s epic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and his legendary submarine, the Nautilus.

In the scene Latif and Flood, who plays a privileged daughter of the British Empire taken hostage on the Nautilus, were dressed in period costumes as they bolted from the doors of the museum onto its balcony.

They were pursued by gun-wielding soldiers, who began firing on them as they looked for an escape.

Elsewhere on set soldiers were spotted mounted on horses.

Blue screens surrounded the perimeter of the venue while drones flew overhead and crew members on cranes helped capture the action.

Police joined security at the gates, which is understood to be a requirement because of the guns being used on set.

Filming will resume next week at The Old Museum, which also previously hosted Dora and The Lost City of Gold.

Nautilus has been filming at Village Roadshow Studios and on location on the Gold Coast and will continue for the remainder of 2022.

The Federal Government offered $23.3 million in funding through its Location Incentive program while the production was also supported through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.

It will inject an estimated $96 million into Queensland’s economy and create around 240 jobs for local cast and crew, as well as include 350 extras and is the first Disney production to film in Queensland since Thor: Ragnarok shut down the Brisbane CBD in 2016.
