A worksite south of Dalby was shutdown for four hours after a 98,000 fixed gas tank started leaking, putting the lives of Cecil Plains Queensland Cotton workers at risk.

A QFES spokesman said after getting a 000 call at 7.37am on Friday, July 16, firefighters worked with a gas technician to get the situation under control.

“We had three pumpers, a hazmat support vehicle and a senior officer on scene,” he said.

“After establishing an exclusion zone we worked with a gas technician, while they rectified the equipment crews ensured anyone’s safety.”

The spokesman said after carrying out atmosphere testing to ensure the site was safe, crews left the scene about 12pm.

Ergon Energy spokesman Brett Judge said crews shut off the power in the area after being directed by emergency services.

Mr Judge said the power was cut to 29 customers at 8.28am to ensure the community’s safety.

No one had been injured during the incident.
