When a neighbour’s dog was barking became too much, a Dalby mum hurled a tirade of verbal abuse at both the animal and its owner, alerting police to an outstanding warrant for her arrest.
Police responded to the incident at a unit on Wood Street and service station cook Kelly Irihapiti Mea Biddle spoke to police through her screen door, Dalby Magistrates Court heard.
Police prosecutor Derek Brady said the 29-year-old woman admitted to screaming at the dog, but refused to leave her unit.
“The (neighbours) heard the defendant yelling ‘shut the f--k up you stupid little b-tch c — nt, you mutt,’” Sergeant Brady said.
Biddle spotted the dog’s owner and redirected the verbal abuse was then redirected from the dog to her.
Unlucky for Biddle, police realised while speaking to her a warrant had been issued for her arrest in relation to an unrelated incident.
Officers told the mother she was under arrest but she still refused to open her door and officers began to force their way in.
Sergeant Brady said at this point, Biddle conceded and began to exit the property, but pushed past an officer and slapped them away when they attempted to grab her.
Just two months prior to assaulting police on May 17, officers were called to Biddle’s unit because multiple people could hear her screaming at a man.
Sergeant Brady said when officers pulled up across the road, they could clearly hear Biddle swearing and yelling.
“She stated she was having a disagreement with her partner and wanted him out of the house” he said.
Officers also arrested Biddle on this occasion, Sergeant Brady said the unrelenting verbal abuse continued towards the man, as the mother screamed “you f — king c — t” from the back of the cop car.
Biddle pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, obstructing a police officer, and public nuisance.
The court heard from the probation board in relation to an assault in 2019 where Biddle, who has an extensive history of similar offending, had successfully complied with her order.
Defence solicitor Jessica Hine said the mother-of-two accepted she had no excuse for her behaviour, noting Biddle’s last public nuisance offence had been in 2019.
Magistrate Tracy Mossop sentenced Biddle to three months’ jail, wholly suspended for 15 months.
“Consider yourself lucky you’re not going to spend time in jail – it is worthy of a sentence of imprisonment… but it is a last resort,” she said.
“If we successfully help you in the next 15 months by way of a probation order… you’re going to get into your 30s and be a better person, and a better mother.”
