Wieambilla looter, Jaison Allen Knight was sentenced in Chinchilla court with driving offence

A man who was sentenced earlier this year for looting the Wieambilla property where two police officers and a civilian were killed has fronted court again, repeatedly interrupting the prosecutor while his matter was being dealt with.

Aussie road rules you’ve probably never heard of

A man who was in court six months ago for looting the Wieambilla property that saw three people killed in a devastating event that shook the nation, has been sentenced again this time for a driver’s licence mishap.

Jaison Allen Knight appeared in Chinchilla Magistrates Court on August 24 following a driving charge that could have easily been avoided.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins said the 23-year-old was driving on an expired driver’s licence along Dalby Kogan Rd in Dalby on August 7.

“Long story short his licence was expired,” Sergeant Hutchins said.

“There’s a bit more to it than that but I don’t want to convolute the matter.

“There were other people that maybe could have driven him.”

The Western Downs man who had stated at the beginning of the mention that he was driving to renew his licence and pick up baby formula, interrupted the prosecutor as he read the police report.

“No there wasn’t, as I said to the police my parents live in Normanton 20 hours away,” he said.

Knight said at the time of the offence he and the mother of his child believed she had lost her licence due to a previous drug driving charge.

Sergeant Hutchins told the court the man’s partner was in the car with him at the time when he interrupted again.

“We thought she wasn’t licenced,” he said.

The licence mishap comes six months after the man was sentenced with his co-accused, Jacob Colin Woodhouse in the same court for looting the Wieambilla property where two police officers and a civilian were shot and killed by a family of three.

At the time Knight pleaded guilty to one count of looting where by death or incapacity, one count of trespass and two counts of supplying dangerous drugs.

He was sentenced to 12 months’ probation with no conviction recorded.

“This is nothing short of disgraceful, it was incredibly careless and mind boggling that either of you thought it was a good idea to go into a crime scene, surrounded by police who were armed and on edge,” Magistrate Kyna Morice said at the time.

Knight pleaded guilty on Thursday to driving without a licence.

He was fined $150 and no conviction was recorded and his licence was not disqualified.
