Two men have been exposed for their disgraceful act of looting the Wieambilla property crime scene in the days after Queensland’s deadliest police shooting took place.

Those sitting at the back of Chinchilla Magistrates Court turned to each other with bewilderment and gasps could be heard from across the room when the charges were read aloud.

Jaison Allen Knight, 23, and Jacob Colin Woodhouse, 26, snuck into the Wieambilla home after spotting two motorbikes in the media coverage of the horror triple murder.

The Wieambilla property on the Western Downs belonged to the Train family and was the place where Constable Matthew Arnold, Rachel McCrow and neighbour Alan Dare were gunned down in an ambush that shocked the nation on December 12.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins told the court, the Tara men arrived at the house at 2am on December 18.

“They parked a vehicle at the property and went under the shed where they walked the first bike nearby the tree line,” Sergeant Hutchins said.

“When they went back a second time, police who were on the scene conducting patrols caught them.”

He told the court the two men were arrested at gunpoint

“I recall this day and police thought more people would come to abuse the scene,” Sergeant Hutchins said.

The court heard Woodhouse and Knight were “pissed off” at the Trains and didn’t believe they deserved the bikes.

“I understand but it just isn’t right,” Sergeant Hutchins said.

“It’s insensitive on one level and stupid on another.”

Defence lawyer Brad Skuse said his clients who are both fathers, were shaken since the incident after they were confronted with guns and were “remorseful”.

“They wish to put this behind them but might require assistance in that,” he said.

After police arrested the duo at the Wieambilla property, an investigation showed drug supply messages on their phones, where they had sold a small amount of marijuana to friends.

Magistrate Kyna Morice condemned the men for their actions which she described as “selfish, insensitive and ultimately incredibly narcissistic”.

“This is nothing short of disgraceful, it was incredibly careless and mind boggling that either of you thought it was a good idea to go into a crime scene, surrounded by police who were armed and on edge,” she said.

She berated the men for taking items they believed they were “entitled” to.

“To turn an incident that an entire nation was mourning over for your own benefit and gain is appalling,” Ms Morice told them.

“Your names will forever be attached to this incident.”

Woodhouse told the magistrate, “We’re aware of that”.

There is no suggestion Knight and Woodhouse were involved in the initial crimes in December.

Both men pleaded guilty to one count of looting where by death or incapacity, one count of trespass and two counts of supplying dangerous drugs.

Woodhouse and Knight were sentenced to 12 months’ probation.

Knight received no conviction recorded.

A conviction was recorded for Woodhouse due to his previous criminal history.
