A 22-year-old Dalby man has landed himself in court after launching a tub of gravy at an unsuspecting man’s car.

Matthew John Anscombe faced court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to one count of public nuisance following an incident at 8pm on January 3, 2025.

The court was told the victim was sitting in his car when he heard a loud bang and saw Anscombe, who was known to him, driving past down the main street.

The victim got out of his car to investigate and discovered the back of his vehicle had been splattered with gravy.

The man attended the Dalby police station with officers following him out to his car to investigate, at which point they saw Anscombe driving past.

Police intercepted Anscombe in the car with several other unnamed people where he made omissions to throwing the gravy and said the man was known to him.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne questioned why a grown man would do something so childish.

“You’re a young man and you don’t want to be racking up so many offences at such a young age that will impact you going forward,” she said.

When asked if he had anything to say for himself Anscombe remained quiet.

For his offending he was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and no conviction was recorded.
