A 29-year-old Logan man has been sentenced in court after he admitted to taking ice to stay awake on a long drive from Brisbane to Tara.

Brenden Mansell faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Thursday, pleading guilty to driving while a relevant drug was in his salvia following an incident on August 3, 2024.

The court was told about 7.30pm police intercepted Mansell on Milne St, Tara, subjecting him to a breath and drug test where he returned a positive reading for methamphetamine.

Mansell told the court he had been driving to Tara to help his friend build a house and was falling asleep behind the wheel so decided to take the drug to stay awake.

When sentencing magistrate Kathleen Payne took into account Mansell’s limited traffic offending.

He was sentenced to a one month loss of licence, a $350 fine and no conviction was recorded.
