A man who confessed to a court that he fell asleep at the steering wheel while waiting at a set of traffic lights has labeled the reckless act as the “dumbest decision” he’s ever made.

Josefa Roko Keli appeared in Dalby Magistrates Court on December 12 after he was busted for drink driving in Dalby.

Police prosecutor Derek Brady said on November 19 a police officer on a motorbike found the man who had been driving along Condamine St and asked him to take part in breath test with the man providing a reading of 0.161.

When acting magistrate Andrew Walker prompted the man further on what happened that evening, he confessed to dozing off at the wheel.

“I was going to go pick up one of my brothers and was parked at the light,” Keli said.

“I must’ve slept on the wheel while waiting for the light to turn green, then the sergeant was outside of the window trying to wake me up.

“It’s the dumbest decision I’ve ever made.”

The feedlot worker pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence.

He was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for six months. A conviction was recorded.
