‘I love you I’m sorry’: Man sentenced in Dalby Magistrates Court for breaching DV order with flowers and card

A young man found himself in hot water after sending flowers and a card to his ex-partner in hospital.

A man who sent his sympathies to an ex-partner in hospital has found himself in trouble with the law after breaching his domestic violence order.

The 24-year-old faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to one count of breaching a domestic violence order after he sent flowers and a card to an ex-partner at Nanango Hospital on November 9, 2023.

The court was told the domestic violence order was made in the Dalby court just three days prior and the man, who legally cannot be identified, was unaware that he was in breach of the order when he sent the flowers and the card which read “I’m sorry I love you” in Italian.

The court was told the man had sent the gifts after his ex-partner had contacted him first telling him she was in hospital.

The man had also been co-operative with police during the process.

Magistrate Aaron Simpson who read the man’s character references said by all accounts he was “a top bloke that everyone wanted to be mates with and he had made an honest mistake”.

The man was fined $200 for the breach and no conviction was recorded.
