Dalby man faces 70+ charges following dramatic arrest at shopping centre

An alleged armed robber who had been squatting in different locations around Dalby was arrested in dramatic scenes in the car park of a shopping centre after running from police the day prior. Here’s how the arrest unfolded.

A man has been slapped with more than 70 charges after he was arrested while squatting in a car underneath a Dalby shopping centre following his alleged escape from police the day prior.

Police were called to James Cook Drive on Thursday, November 24 where Jesse Conar Brough-Coates had been squatting after he had allegedly committed a range of property damage offences.

“(Mr Brough-Coates) drove off and we missed him by 20 seconds,” Senior Sergeant Sean Donaghey said.

Sgt Donaghey said Mr Brough-Coates allegedly stole property and tasered people earlier in the week before he was found by police on Friday morning.

Police allege Mr Brough-Coates had committed an armed robbery before returning to the car filled with stolen items.

It’s alleged the 20-year-old “wrestled” with police during the arrest in the underground car park.

Sgt Donaghey said the man was taken to Dalby Hospital after threatening to kill himself however was sent back to the watch house later that same day.

Defence lawyer Julia Molloy told Dalby Magistrates Court she would need time to go through the charges as there were 70 “outstanding charges at this time”.

Mr Brough-Coates has been charged with armed robbery, entering a dwelling to commit an indictable offence, assault, obstructing police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, property damage, stealing a car, evasion and an extensive list of vehicle-related charges.

He is expected to appear in Dalby Magistrates Court on December 7.
