Dalby man busted mid-range drink driving while moving his car off the street

A young man has learnt the hard way to never get behind the wheel while drinking after he was busted while moving his car off the street after a few beers at the pub.

A Dalby man has faced court after he returned a mid-range breath alcohol reading when he stopped by police while moving his car off the street.

A 20-year-old man has learnt a hard lesson after attempting to move his car and being caught for drink driving.

Caleb Alexander Joyce faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to one count of mid-range drink driving and one count of not displaying his plates.

The court was told Joyce was at the Condamine Hotel on August 10 enjoying a few beers when he walked across the road to move his car from the street to the back of his accommodation opposite the pub.

Despite the drive being only a few hundred metres Joyce was stopped by police who breath tested him and he returned a reading of 0.117.

Joyce was also fined for not having his green P-plates properly displayed.

Joyce, who appeared remorseful to the court, told magistrate Aaron Simpson that “it was a ridiculous decision looking back at it now”.

“I could’ve just left the car there until the next day,” he said.

Mr Simpson applauded Joyce for his remorse and the way he presented himself.

“You’re clearly a decent young bloke who made a mistake,” Mr Simpson said.

The magistrate did however warn him of the risks associated with drink driving even for short distances, saying drivers were five times more likely to crash if they were over 0.05 and the results could be devastating.

“You could be a great worker, a star footballer and a good son but if you crash and kill someone you will forever be known as a drink driver.” he said.

For his offences Joyce was fined $800 and lost his licence for three months. No conviction was recorded.
