FOR an outsider, it might seem a bit odd to have a weekend dedicated to an event that worships wood, but don't tell that to Jandowae.
The small town is preparing for its biggest event of 2018, the Jandowae Timbertown Festival.
To be held June 8-10, it will feature woodchops, yabby races, a grand parade and an art show.
The biennial event draws people from across the southern corner of Queensland to experience what it was like in the working class town when the timber industry was thriving.
Jandowae Timbertown Festival president Leon Druce said the event tapped into a rich history.
"The heritage of Jandowae was that it started off as a timber town. I think there were three or four mills, and three pubs that were vibrant back in the day,” he said.
"So it was decided to start up the festival just to promote that.”
From humble beginnings, the festival has grown to be massive and this year will be no exception.
"Preparations are coming along nicely. We've got all our market stalls booked out,” Mr Druce said.
" I think there's 111 market stalls and that includes all the food stalls and all the kids' stuff.”
For those who have never experienced the Jandowae festival, Mr Druce promises you won't be disappointed.
"It's a fantastic weekend with country hospitality. It's also a free event, so it's a cheap and affordable weekend away,'' Mr Druce said.
"The country atmosphere and experience will be great. We've also got some timber events, so it will be a nice small country town feel.
"It's a great chance to enjoy what Jandowae has to offer.”
