Dalby near miss: Aurizon releases footage of man running in front of path of oncoming train

The concerning video of the Dalby man has drawn condemnation from a train company due to the stress it causes drivers and the very real possibility the man could have been seriously injured or killed. WATCH THE VIDEO:

Footage has detailed a shocking near-miss at a level crossing in Dalby where a young man is seen crossing the tracks in front of an oncoming train, just narrowly escaping serious danger or death.

Rail freight company Aurizon said they were disappointed by the images they captured of the reckless incident at the Nicholson Street crossing.

In the video captured on August 9, a young man jogs across the tracks in front of the freight train, prompting the train driver to slam his horn in frustration.

Aurizon regional operations manager Andrew Hack said near misses like these occur “almost weekly” in the Darling Downs.

“It was only a matter of seconds between a near-miss in this instance and the tragic death of a young person from the Dalby community,” Mr Hack said.

“Fortunately, it was a lucky escape for the pedestrian but for our drivers, the impact is significant and can be lasting.

“Behaviour like this is just unacceptable.

“It not only puts the life of the person involved at risk; it puts the lives of our drivers at risk.”

While the majority of people do the right thing, Mr Hack said were a number of motorists who ignored signs and flashing lights.

Emergency rushed to two similar car and train incidents in Dalby earlier this year, with fortunately no one being seriously injured.

The first crash involved a prime mover which crashed into a at the level crossing along Jandowae Road in February, while another vehicle was clipped by a moving train in Cunningham Street.
