Tara and District Art Exhibition returns after three-year hiatus

Keen art lovers and creatives in the Western Downs will have the chance to show off their skills in an upcoming Tara art exhibition which has returned following a three-year break. All the details.

The Tara and District Art Exhibition has returned and will give residents the opportunity to show off their artistic side and contribute their talents to the show.

Formerly known as Bloomin’ Creative Showcase, the exhibition will invite artists from around the region to submit work for the week-long event that officially kicks off on Friday, October 20 at 6pm.

In 2018 more than 80 guests attended the showcase and viewed more than 200 pieces of art at Tara Memorial Hall.

Councillor Kaye Maguire and spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development said the exhibition will shine a spotlight on local talent.

“It’s so important to provide our artists with a platform to showcase their work and express their creativity,” she said.

“Initiatives like the Tara and District Art Exhibition as well as the workshops in the lead up, are part of keeping our arts and culture scene flourishing here on the Western Downs.”

Ms Maguire said it was community partnerships like that between the Tara Steering Group Committee and Tara and District Family Support Committee that helped make this event happen.

Steering Group Committee member Ros Wade said residents from the wider region would benefit from the event.

“The Tara and District Art Exhibition has grown from the original Bloomin’ Creative Showcase back in 2018 and provides the Tara and wider community the opportunity to view and potentially purchase art and craft works by residents of the district,” Ms Wade said.

“We would like to see as many established and new artists, artisans and crafters using this opportunity to exhibit their works in a professional exhibition.

“Entry is free and we have prize money for winners in each category.”

Residents can send their submissions now via the Tara Customer Service Centre on Fry St or by contacting Jessica Norford on 0437 036 720.
