Creativity blooms in Tara

More than 80 guests have been treated to a night of local art and music at the bi-annual Bloomin' Creative Showcase.

MORE than 80 guests have been treated to a night of local art and music at the bi-annual Bloomin' Creative Showcase.

The event was held at the Tara Memorial Hall last Friday, where guests had the chance to view a total of 225 artworks from across the Tara district while listening to vibrant live music and sampling tasty food platters.

The music came courtesy of Signy Janelle & The Black Suits, who performed as part of Western Downs Regional Council's Groovin' into Town live music series.

This year's featured artist, Annette Brimblecombe, was invited to cut the ribbon, officially launching the week-long exhibition.

The night also featured a multi-draw raffle with 28 prizes up for grabs, raising $865 to go to Angel Flight, while proceeds of the bar went to the Tara Show Society.

Western Downs councillor Kaye Maguire said that this event not only supported local artists but also some important community organisations in Tara.

"Providing our local artists with opportunities to showcase their work is a very important part of keeping our arts and culture scene flourishing here on the Western Downs,” Cr Maguire said.

"Community groups who were involved in the event include the Tara and District Support Committee, Tara Craft Association, Tara Crisis Support Group and our sponsor QGC who supplied the materials to professionally display the artworks.

"I'd like to say a special thank-you to Jim Moran and Mark Thompson from the Tara Show Society, as well as the Tara Emergency Service Cadets for their help with food and drink on the night.”

The Bloomin' Creative Showcase items were on display in the Tara Memorial Hall every day between September 1-5.
