The South West Queensland music community is in mourning after the sudden death of beloved musician and family man Luke Nash.

The musician who played from Warwick to Dalby and everywhere in between died on Friday January 10, with tributes beginning to flow from across the region.

Friend Emma Hope described Nash as a “generous and kind” man and said he would be greatly missed.

“My husband I have been friends with Nash for 10 years and we met originally when we were looking for a wedding singer, he sung at our wedding and we kept him as a friend as well,” she said.

“It didn't really matter what was going on for Nash he always smiled, he always tried to cheer people up and he was the type of person who brought a positive energy with him.

“He was a musician and people often referred to him as ‘having the voice of an angel’ he was a great solo guitarist a well, but that wasn't just what he was about.

“He loved playing poker, he was a lover of food and was always willing to try something new, I remember him and my husband eating snails, he also did security in and around Toowoomba so he was not only a friendly face to many but a protective kind of person to a lot of people.

“He was a wedding singer, a pub singer, a poker player a security guard hence why there is so many people in the community who have been affected, he was very generous and kind.”

A post from the Nash Music Facebook page revealing the news has garnered almost 1000 reactions and more than 250 comments mourning his tragic death.

“Heartbreaking news, a great bloke and a great talent lost too soon in our corner of Queensland,” Boyd Ridley Music wrote.

“Nash, you were a very talented, very kind and always humble man. I’ll miss seeing you around. Thank you for the music and memories. RIP,” Ian Wickham said.

“Sincere condolences to Nash’s family, such a beautiful soul and AMAZING talent, Fly high Nash you will be missed greatly,” Trish Roberts commented.

Meanwhile Mandy Ryan remembered the first time she heard Nash play.

“So sad to hear the news of Nash passing … I fell in love with his music in 2013 and my husband and I would go to the Warwick RSL to listen to him play … he was brilliant,” she wrote

“We loved his talent so much that we had him play at our wedding … RIP Nash … I will always remember you for being a great man with an amazing talent for music.”

Ms Hope has now launched a GoFundMe to support Nash’s son, who she said was “the biggest part of his life”.

“Nash wasn't sick previously so it came as quite a shock when he passed away. It happened very quickly, it was a medical emergency totally unforeseen and he didn't have any funeral plans in place,” she said.

“We are raising money separately for the funeral and this particular fund is to make sure there aren't any debts incurred, everything he did he did for his son and he would want him to have a future and that money will go in to helping with schooling and counselling and all the things that will be needed now he is not there.

“It is really about his little fella having money to help with his future and seeing the community response and how special is dad was to everyone.”

Ms Hope has also organised a memorial event on February 23 at the Blue Mountain Hotel.

“We are going to be running a charity poker game with the proceeds going to the family and helping with the funeral costs,” she said.

“We are also going to have activities for kids to do, the Blue Mountain will have their smoker on to celebrate his love of food and meat.

“There is going to be all the things he loved, laughter, food, poker and family and we also have three musicians from the Darling Downs coming to play so there will be music as well.

“He would’ve wanted everyone to support his son, because he did that for everyone else he volunteered his time often for others and would always be there for people.”
