FOR more than 20 years Allison Reedy has helped countless people around Toowoomba.
Now the passionate volunteer who can always be found around the Garden City’s netball court is the one that needs help.
After months of pain, discomfort and various tests, Ms Reedy was diagnosed with a rare malignant Paraganglioma.
Ms Reedy needs surgery to remove the tumour which is wrapped around her left carotid artery.
“Allison is a wonderful person,” Megan Banks, who has set up a GoFundMe to support Ms Reedy, said.
“I’ve known her for 20 years and she is a great friend, a hard worker and a passionate volunteer.
“She is the type of person that volunteers for every fundraiser, project and cause no matter what it is, but she never asks for any help for herself.
“She’s a proud single mother and a very private person.”
“The specialist teams at the PA Hospital in Brisbane – ENT, Vascular, Neurologists – are currently devising a surgical plan to remove this tumour that is completely wrapped around my left carotid artery,” she said.
“They hope to replace the artery using one in my leg,” she said.
“One of two branches to the artery is completely blocked, partially blocking the other and has paralysed the left side of my voice box.
“It is not an option to do nothing however surgery comes with high risks.”
