The 2022 Tara Festival has kicked off with a bang, already drawing hundreds of people from across the country to the tiny Western Downs town for a huge first day of the event.

Friday morning saw students from Tara State School march through the main street while dressed in clothing representative of cultures from around the world, celebrating the multicultural festivities taking place throughout the weekend.

The Dalby State School band provided the day’s live entertainment as huge crowds shopped their way through a massive range of market stalls.

Visitors Kevin Goodbun and Carol Sharpe arrived in town all the way from Lake Macquarie and the Gold Coast to see the Tara festival for the first time, with Mr Goodbun even inspired to pull out his own guitar to sing and play on the side of the main street.

“I’m a bit of a wanderer and I love playing music, someone’s got to do it,” he said

“I’ve had a great time so far.”

For others at the festival such as Brisbane residents Lynda and Graham Kendrick, the event is a beloved annual trip and the couple is thrilled to see it finally return in 2022.

“This is our third time coming. We love the camel races, and were so saddened to miss out on last year,” Mrs Kendrick said.

“But we’re back and having a great time.”

Campers started to head back to the festival grounds at about noon and will be treated to the Carnivale Show which opens at 5:30pm Friday.
