Fire crews employ heavy machinery to fight large blaze near Tara

Fire crews have declared Cambridge Crossing Rd at Tara safe after extinguishing a four-day blaze on Saturday morning.

Fire services said the vegetation fire started on Wednesday with crews using graders and bulldozers to put in firewalls and prevent further spread of the blaze.

They also employed the use of drones to map the fire’s path.

By 7.25am on Saturday the fire was completely extinguished and crews returned on Sunday to ensure there had been no flare ups before officially declaring the scene safe.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said while they were unsure at this stage how much land had been lost, they were able to confirm there had been no damage to property or injuries to people.

They were also unsure what had caused the fire but investitions were underway.

They further thanked land owners for their help with battling with the blaze.

This comes as fire ban season officially began on Monday.
