Dalby Show 2023: Your guide to what’s on, world record attempts, cancellations and more

As thousands prepare to flood the gates of the Dalby Show, organisers are gearing up to set not one but two world records at the 153rd event. Here is everything you need to know about this weekend.

As the 153rd Dalby Show kicks off this weekend, organisers have shared what attendees can expect at the epic event, which will include the usual rodeo, rides and fireworks as well as two world records being battled for.

The Dalby Show Society treasurer Rob Parsons said this weekend the Dalby Show committee will attempt to beat their previous Australian record of ‘most vintage stationary engines running at once’.

In 2021 Dalby broke the Australian record with 353 engines running at once, and on Saturday April 15, Mr Parsons said they will be gunning for the world record and currently have 470 entries.

“With a bit of luck, we might top it,” he said.

“The plan is to break our own Australian record and make a new world record. You’ve got to dream a bit haven’t you.”

World record attempt leader Darren Grey said the community was “thrilled” to be hosting the attempt.

“This is a great opportunity for our community to come together and achieve something truly extraordinary to recognise the role that Stationary Engines have played across Australia,” Mr Grey said.

“We are confident that with the support of the machinery community from across Australia, that we will be able to break the current world record and make history at our local show, the epitome showcases event of regional Australia.”

In addition to the most engines running in one place record, Dalby residents will put on their best overalls to try and achieve the ‘most overalls worn in one place’ world record.

“Someone came up with the idea that a lot of people in the engine section will be wearing overalls, so let’s make a world record for people wearing overalls at the same event,” Mr Parsons said.

He said the event is expected to draw in 6000 people, after a lack in numbers last year when bad weather struck and washed away many attendees.

“The rodeo will be bigger and better than normal,” Mr Parsons said.

“There’s more trade sites and an increase in the number of machinery displayers.

“There are 480 photos in the photography exhibit. It’s going to be a beauty.”

The treasurer added there has been one cancellation this year with the horse jumping event not going forward.

“There are other shows on and people have chosen to go to different ones and different things this year,” he said.

“There’s still other horse events on that’s our only cancellation.”

The Dalby Show officially kicks off Friday, April 14 at 11am and finish at 11.30pm. The event will continue onto Saturday, April 15 at 8am where both world record attempts will be held later in the day.
