Dalby has cemented its place in the world record books following a mammoth effort by two daring community groups.

The Dalby and District Show Society (DDSS) and the Dalby Pioneer Park Museum attempted the world record for the most stationary engines running at a given time on April 24 with 353 engines.

The world record win was confirmed on Monday and DDS secretary Raelene Akers said it was an amazing effort, with special regards going to Pioneer Park.

“Darren Grey from Pioneer Park was the big instigator, as he was able to bring everyone together to make sure all of the members brought as many engines as they could,” Mrs Akers said.

“Over 90 per cent of the work was done by him from behind the scenes, as he was the one who received all of the nominations for the record.”

The two community groups were originally only going to attempt the Australian record, with scrutineers flying from Melbourne on April 24.

Mrs Akers said however because of the pandemic, the international scrutineers weren’t able to travel to Australia, but were able to confirm it with the 25 Australian scrutineers who attended.

Overall, she estimated that there were about 50–100 people who successfully helped in the monumental record being broken.

“It’s great that two community organisations can come together at one big event,” she said.

“Pioneer Park were concerned they wouldn’t be able to get their COVID plan up and running, with ours taking a while to get sorted.

“But for us to combine and beat the record is nothing short of amazing for Dalby.”

Official attendance numbers haven’t been calculated by the show society, however Mrs Akers has believed more than 6800 punters came through the gates over the ANZAC Day weekend.

“We were probably up about 1000 from previous years, with the rodeo bringing record entries for us,” she said.

“We weren’t able to have a cattle section because it clashed with Beef Week, but our horse show events brought in great crowds.

“All in all it was a great weekend.”
