In what’s been dubbed as the ‘biggest crowd’ in years, Dalby residents flocked to join in on the Anzac Day parade and commemoration service in remembrance of our country’s soldiers. See all the pictures from the memorable day here.

Residents turned up in droves on Tuesday morning to take part in the beloved Anzac Day parade and commemoration service that followed.

On April 25 hundreds of residents took to Cunningham and Patrick Sts to take part in the parade, then made their way to Anzac Park and be part of the commemoration service led by Councilor Kaye Maguire.

Dalby RSL sub branch president Graham Coles who also closed the ceremony labelled the special events as having the “biggest crowd” in years.

“The crowd on the street doubled from last year,” he said.

“This service takes three months to organise, it was a great day and I thank all those people who volunteered.”

While the crowd of people who turned up to commemorate Anzac Day was an impressive sight to see, the service was made extra memorable as 12-year-old Rowan Keys took to the bagpipes at the Dawn Service in his first public performance, followed up again by his performance at the commemoration service.

Rowan’s mum Allison Keys, who sat in the front row of the service, shed a tear in happiness for her son’s efforts.

“I’m just really proud,” she said.

The young Dalby boy who had only been playing the instrument for two-and-a-half years, said he practised the song in three weeks with the help of the Western Downs Winds group.

“I think I did all right,” he said.

He explained his first performance at the Dawn Service went “a little pear-shaped” due to technical difficulties, but he followed it up with a second go while at the commemoration service at Anzac Park which saw him receive a massive applause from the crowd at the end of the service.
