Crisafulli more honest, stronger visionary than premier: Poll

YouGov polling has revealed David Crisafulli leads Steven Miles on all character attributes, bar one, in what could be a monumental stumbling block for the Opposition Leader.

David Crisafulli leads Steven Miles on all character attributes – except approachability – in a sign the LNP leader has the measure of the premier in a direct contest.

A YouGov poll of 1019 Queenslanders for The Courier-Mail earlier this month revealed Mr Crisafulli outperformed Mr Miles in six of seven attributes questions.

Mr Crisafulli holds a 10-point lead over Mr Miles in trustworthiness – 55 to 45 – and holds a 12-point advantage for honesty – 56 to 44.

The opposition leader’s strongest showing comes as voters are asked to detail who is more likely to make tough decisions that affect Queenslanders.

Mr Crisafulli has an 18-point lead over Mr Miles – 59 to 41 per cent.

Approachability is Mr Miles’s strongest feature, however, with the two leaders tied 50-50.

The premier has attempted to cultivate the image of a suburban dad – on Wednesday night even sculling a beer on Caxton Street.

On caring for ordinary people, he trails Mr Crisafulli 52-48.

Concerning for the government, however, is the feedback towards Mr Crisafulli when voters are asked who has a strong vision for Queensland.

Labor has attempted to paint Mr Crisafulli as offering little detail on his plan for the state and repeatedly accused him of simply delivering “four-word slogans”.

Despite the attack, Mr Crisafulli leads Mr Miles 55 to 45 per cent when voters are asked who has a vision for Queensland?

The premier’s results are stronger among female voters, who rate him higher in approachability and caring for ordinary people – and one point behind Mr Crisafulli in having more in common with people and having a vision for Queensland.

Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon – who would lose to the LNP if the 10 per cent statewide swing against the government occurs in her seat – acknowledged she was in for a fight.

“We’ve always been the underdog and I’ve always been the underdog here on the Gold Coast being the only Labor member.

“He (Mr Crisafulli) needs to articulate an actual plan.

Four-word slogans don’t build houses, it doesn’t built roads and it doesn’t keep our community safe.”

Ms Scanlon blamed “a lot of pressures”, including cost of living, for the swing against the government.

Mr Crisafulli said people weren’t focused on polling numbers, but encouraged them to vote for the LNP.

“I’m asking Queenslanders is if they want to see change, they have to vote for change,” he said.

“Time’s up for this government.”
