Football Queensland have launched an investigation after explosive footage of two teams brawling following a match emerged, with a coaching staff member believed to have been the main instigator of the fight.
Video shared online showed a man - who is believed to be a part of the Mackay Lions Soccer Club’s coaching staff - as he shook hands with members of Magpies Football Club Mackay.
He then approached another player on the opposing team and shook their hand before words were exchanged and a push and shove ensued.
A man who is believed to be a coaching staff member of Magpies then involved himself in the scuffle before the fight escalated, with several players and staff attempting to break up the brawl.
Swearing and yelling could be heard during the video and ended with the man being dragged away by numerous players and staff.
The incident is believed to have occurred on March 8 during a round one game in the FQPL 3 Whitsunday Coast competition.
With more than 100,000 views on Facebook, football fans were quick to point out the ongoing tension between the two clubs.
“Was always a good beef between Maggies (and) Lions,” one commenter said.
“Both clubs are a shambles,” another commented.
A Football Queensland spokesperson confirmed the incident was under investigation by their integrity unit and were unable to provide further details due to the ongoing nature.
Both clubs have been contacted for comment.
