Queenslanders still left without power in destructive storm aftermath

The search for a 25-year-old South Australian man who went missing in rural western Queensland has come to a tragic end.

The man’s body was located by a helicopter at around 5pm on Tuesday evening.

The Adelaide man was reported missing on Sunday afternoon, and a land and air search was launched on Monday morning.

The man had been travelling along Woomanooka Rd in the Durham Downs area in convoy with another vehicle, when both vehicles became bogged on Sunday morning.

The man and a 39-year-old woman who was in the second vehicle started walking to get help, but the woman turned back after about 30 minutes and the pair were separated.

Emergency services have been searching for the 25-year-old man in the Durham Downs area since Monday, January 15.

The woman was located by a passing motorist, who notified authorities that the man was missing.

The Brisbane woman is physically uninjured, according to police.

The man’s body was recovered approximately 12km from his car.

Search and rescue co-ordinator Senior Constable Mark Baker said it was a tragic end to the search.

“Police conducted an extensive land and air search over the remote area which sadly resulted in locating the man deceased,” he said.

“Police have been in contact with the man’s family, and our thoughts are with them at this time.”

While the search has now come to an end, Charleville police said that investigations into the circumstances of the incident were ongoing.
