Charleville residents have moved in to new social housing

Social housing in an outback Queensland town is helping resident’s find their feet, and providing jobs.

Residents have moved in to new social housing in Charleville.

More Charleville residents will have a roof over their heads, after the completion of more social housing in the rural town.

Local contractors, Gecko Builders and Concreters, built the new housing units, which was funded by a $644,000 contribution from the state government.

The project to build the units supported around three full-time equivalent construction jobs.

Charleville resident, Harold Lake, recently moved into his new home, provided through the social housing program.

“I’ve been couch-surfing and staying with family for some time now. How can I put it? I’m over the moon to have this brand-new stable home,’’ Mr Lake said.

“It means safety, security. I can walk to places to get what I need.’’

Residents have moved in to new social housing in Charleville.

Housing minister, Meaghan Scanlon, said the delivery of the homes shows the government’s commitment to building more homes for Queenslanders in need.

“These houses are more than just four walls and a roof, they’re stability and the opportunity to pursue a good job, education and life,” Ms Scanlon said.
