A LUXURY Wategos beach home selling for $6 million has been featured in the New York Times and lauded for its eco-friendly credentials.
The four-bedroom, solar powered home at 59 Brownell Dr was designed by architect Peter Stutchbury and completed in 2013.
Named The Wing House after its wing-like roof spanning 27.5 metres, the home has ocean views; a 22 metre lap pool and is built into the escarpment with Cape Byron lighthouse above.
The New York Times included the home in its house-hunting section, gushing that the home was "a contemporary design of steel, timber, concrete and glass on four levels that nestles into a verdant hill overlooking the ocean".
Owners, directors of the Australian College of Massage, Robert and Deborah Wild first brought the 803sq m land in 2001 for $1.35million.
International interest in the house heralds new confidence in the Byron Bay property market, selling agent Nicolette van Wijngaarden of Unique Estates, told the Times.
"Everything that is within 20 to 30 minutes of Byron Bay, in the Byron Bay hinterland, on the beach, is in demand," she said. "Prices are starting to come back."
