CATS should be banned from a development beside Brisbane's newest golf course because they will slowly kill a population of up to 100 squirrel gliders, a wildlife expert says.
Brisbane City Council last week approved a plan by BMD Group to build an 18-hole public golf course near Creek Road at Cannon Hill on 125 hectares of council-owned bushland.
In exchange, BMG Group, which will soon finish Brisbane's Legacy Way tunnel, will be allowed to build 123 homes on 12.5 hectares on the higher part of the site among.
However a no "cat ban" has been recommended to the council and it is not in place.
Between 50 and 100 tiny squirrel gliders live among the 20 different tree species on the site, which is part of the 60 hectare Minnippi Parklands.
